Three Paralympic champions added another gold to their names at the World Triathlon Para Championships in Abu Dhabi, although German Martin Schulz missed out on the podium in the men's PTS5 event.

The course at the Yas Marina Formula 1 circuit in the city in the United Arab Emirates consisted of a 750 metres swim, 4.8 kilometres cycle and 5km run, but Schulz, who earned his second Paralympic gold medal at Tokyo 2020, had to settle for fourth place as he clocked 59mins 0sec.

Chris Hammer of the United States raced to victory with a time of 58:34, seeing off challenges from the Russian Triathlon Federation's (RTF) Aleksandr Konyshev and Brazil's Ronan Cordeiro, who were two and four seconds further back respectively.

The Netherlands' Jetze Plat continued his extraordinary run of having not lost a race since 2015 as he stormed to victory with 56:15 in the men's PTWC.

His compatriot Geert Schipper secured silver with 57:33, and Florian Brungraber of Austria rounded off the top three as he finished 11 seconds later.

Alexis Hanquinquant of France continued his winning run which dates back to 2019 as he won the men's PTS4 event by more than two minutes with a time of 58:54.

Hideki Uda of Japan recorded a time of 1hour 3min 22sec to secure silver, with Spaniard Alejandro Sánchez Palomero coming through in third with 1:03:58.

Spain's women's PTVI Paralympic champion Susana Rodriguez added her third world title as her time of 1:06:26 beat Italy's Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Anna Barbaro by nearly three minutes.

Alison Peasgood of Britain took bronze with 1:09:40.

In the men's PTWC class, Lauren Parker of Australia took advantage of the absence of American Paralympic champion Kendall Gretsch to go one better than her silver at Tokyo 2020 with a time of 1:05:24.

Brazil's Jessica Ferreira clocked 1:09:19 to finish second, with bronze going to Eva María Moral Pedrero of Spain with 1:11:36.

Hailey Danz of the US clinched the women's PTS2 title with 1:17:21, beating Britain's Fran Brown's 1:18:17 and Liisa Lilja of Finland's 1:23:45.

Danz' fellow Tokyo 2020 medallist Veronica Yoko Plebani of Italy did not finish.

Jules Ribstein of France lived up to his billing as favourite in the men's PTS2 as he earned gold with a time of 1:08:43.

Silver went to Spain's Lionel Morales with 1:09:19, while 1:10:44 secured bronze for Belgium's Wim De Paepe.

The RTF's Victor Chebotarev took the gold in the men's PTS3 with a terrific display as he clocked 1:08:07, denying Spain's Daniel Molina another world title.

Molina finished second with 1:09:15, with Nico Van Der Burgt of The Netherlands taking bronze with 1:09:50.

Andrea Miguelez Ranz of Spain impressively won the women's PTS3 race with 1:14:42, with American Kelly Elmlinger taking the women's PTS4 title with 1:12:52 and Britain's Claire Cashmore earning gold with 1:05:01.

The men's PTVI title also went to a Briton as Dave Ellis completed the course in 58:29.
