Security concerns have been raised over Paris 2024's proposal to have the Opening Ceremony at a city-centre location rather than inside a stadium, as is traditional for the Games.

The Organising Committee is expected to reveal possible locations for the Opening Ceremony by the end of this year, with the Seine among those being considered.

It launched a feasibility study to find the locations in the French capital for the event in three years’ time, which is exactly 1,000 days away.

"We already have about 20 working meetings on the subject and many more until 2024," Estanguet told France Télévisions.

"In France, we have real expertise on the different levels of risk, whether it is of a terrorist nature or concerning cybersecurity. 

"We do not start with a blank sheet. 

"But, of course, it's an unprecedented project, which has never been done with so many people, with so many challenges, and we want to do things well."

Estanguet added: "This is why we started working on the subject so early. 

"I am fairly convinced that in the next three years, we will have all the answers. 

"We will have to remain flexible, because until the end, we do not know what can happen - everything can change.

"The devices are designed to be adaptable until the last moments."

International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach is among those to have expressed enthusiasm for the idea of a city-centre Opening Ceremony in the wake of the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympics, which opened on the Avenida 9 de Julio in the Argentinian capital.

Estanguet said 2022 will be a big year for the Paris 2024 Organising Committee and admitted there was "a lot of work" to do on the competition schedule.

"We still have a lot of things to organise with the International Federations, as well as the day-to-day programming of the events," he said. 

"There is still a lot of work on the sports calendar."

The Paris 2024 Olympics are scheduled to run from July 26 to August 11, with the Paralympics due to follow between August 28 and September 8.
