The Badminton World Federation (BWF) will hold clusters of tournaments in Asia and Europe next year to offset the potential impact of COVID-19 on its events.

The BWF said it had revamped its competition calendar "to reduce the complexity of cross-border travel for athletes, the entourage and the technical team."

It will look to replicate successful elements of the 2021 World Tour season, which was hit by numerous event postponements and cancellations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"It is likely that 2022 will be another year where travel is affected by COVID-19," the BWF said.

"The plan aims to replicate the successes of the Asian Leg in January 2021 and the recent run of Grade 1 and 2 tournaments successfully completed in Europe."

The 2022 BWF World Tour campaign is scheduled to begin with the India Open in January and conclude with the Finals in Guangzhou in December.

Badminton's worldwide governing body said it was also discussing adding Super 100 tournaments, the lowest-ranked World Tour events, to the 2022 schedule.

There are six World Tour events remaining this season, including the French Open in Paris, which began on Tuesday (October 26).

The 2021 campaign is set to conclude with the World Tour Finals in Bali in Indonesia from December 1 to 5.
