Masako Furuichi earned Japan's fourth women's wrestling gold of the United World Wrestling (UWW) World Championships as she triumphed in the under-72-kilogram division, while American Helen Louise Maroulis won her third world title on the sixth day of competition in Oslo.

Furuichi was a bronze medallist at the last World Championships in Nur-Sultan two years ago and overcame Kazakhstan's Zhamila Bakbergenova 3-0 in the final.

The bronze medals went to Anna Carmen Schell of Germany as she beat Mongolia's Davaanasan Enkh Amar 7-4, and Buse Tosun Çavuşoğlu of Turkey after her opponent Cynthia Vanessa Vescan of France suffered an injury.

The other non-Olympic women's wrestling weight category to hold its final was the under-59kg, and Japan had the opportunity to pick up another gold, but Akie Hanai lost 6-4 to Bulgaria's Bilyana Zhivkova Dudova.

Sarita Sarita of India took bronze with an 8-2 victory over Sweden's Sara Johanna Lindborg, and so too did Shoovdor Baatarjav of Mongolia as she edged past Maya Gabriella Nelson of the United States 4-3.

In the under-68kg, the Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist Meerim Zhumanazarova of Kyrgyzstan built on her Olympic medal by securing the world title as she beat Japanese opponent Rin Miyaji 4-0.

Miyaji had knocked out the reigning Olympic and world champion Tamyra Mensah-Stock in yesterday's semi-final, but the American was able to take home a bronze today with a 10-1 win against Czech Republic's Adéla Hanzlíčková.

The final spot on the podium went to Khanum Velieva of the Russian Wrestling Federation (RWF) as she beat Canadian Olivia Grace Di Bacco 2-1.

In the under-57kg event, Maroulis clinched gold courtesy of a 4-1 triumph over Anshu Anshu of India.

The American picked up a bronze in this weight division at Tokyo 2020, having won the under-53kg Olympic title at Rio 2016 - this was her third victory at the World Championships.

Davaachimeg Erkhembayar of Mongolia took one of the bronze medals at the expense of Ukraine's Solomiia Vynnyk with an 11-8 win, Sae Nanjo of Japan also finishing joint-third by beating the RWF's Veronika Chumikova 7-3.

The women's wrestling competitions in Oslo have now drawn to a close, but today marked the start of the Greco-Roman events.

The RWF will be involved in three of the finals held tomorrow, as Emin Narimanovitch Sefershaev set up a gold medal bout against Japan's Ken Matsui in the under-55kg, Sergei Kutuzov will face Armenia's Malkhas Amoyan in the under-72kg and Roman Vlasov will go up against Azerbaijan's Sanan Suleymanov in the under-77kg.

Azerbaijan's Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist Rafig Huseynov reached the final of the under-82kg, where he will face Burhan Akbudak of Turkey.

The under-60kg, under-97kg and over-130kg Greco-Roman weight divisions get underway tomorrow with qualification rounds and semi-finals.
