The Swiss venue is hosting the Championships after the European Cycling Union (UEC) stripped the event from Minsk over human rights concerns.

The UEC had faced mounting pressure to move the competition from the Belarusian capital because of a Government crackdown on protesters following last year's controversial re-election of Alexander Lukashenko as President.

Grenchen stepped in to stage the event - which had been set for cancellation - from tomorrow until Saturday (October 9).

Franziska Brauße, Lisa Brennauer and Mieke Kröger, the German Olympic team pursuit champions, and Britain's Tokyo 2020 madison gold medallist Katie Archibald are among the high-profile names in a stacked field.

Italy's team pursuit line-up of Francesco Lamon, Simone Consonni and Jonathan Milan, and Jeffrey Hoogland, Roy van den Berg, Harrie Lavreysen and Shanne Braspennincx of The Netherlands are the other Tokyo 2020 gold medallists on the entry list.

Elisa Balsamo of Italy will also be one to watch at the Championships at Tissot Velodrome, which hosted the event in 2015.

"Participation in the upcoming Championships in Grenchen is on a very high level and this event is eagerly awaited by the best specialists on our continent and their respective National Federations," said UEC President Enrico Della Casa.

"After the great experience of 2015, we are going back to the Tissot Velodrome with one of the main events, and will have extensive media coverage thanks to our partnership with Eurovision which will broadcast the event all over Europe and elsewhere.

"The Tissot Velodrome is undoubtedly a great asset for the European track movement and the five days of racing will show how much the discipline is loved on a continent where sport and cycling go hand in hand."
