The United States' David Taylor has set up a mouthwatering final in the 86 kilograms category against Hassan Yazdani of Iran at the United World Wrestling (UWW) World Championships in Oslo.

Taylor defeated Abubakr Abarkov of Azerbaijan in the semi-finals to set up his final against Yazdani, who he has beaten in all three clashes between the pair, including the Olympic final in Tokyo this year.

Yazdani overcame Artur Naifonov of the Russian Weightlifting Federation (RWF) 8-2 in a repeat of their Olympic semi-final, and Taylor knows not to underestimate his opponent in tomorrow's final.

"You can't take this one for granted," Taylor said.

"It was a very close match at the Olympics, so we'll see which guy prevails in this match.

"Either way, it's going to be very tough.

"I'm ready, I'm looking forward to it."

Yazdiani is looking forward to the challenge, adding: "It will be a beautiful wrestling bout.

"Based on my three times wrestling with him, I know him, I am getting better and I can do a good job so that I can avenge my Tokyo loss."

Two of Taylor's compatriots qualified for finals on the first day of action at the UWW World Championships.

Kyle Dake has qualified for the 74kg final as he attempts to add to the two world titles he earned at 79kg, while Daton Fix eased through to the 61kg final.

Dake - who defeated Azamat Nurykau of Belarus 9-1 - will face Russian-born Tajmuraz Salkazanov who now competes for Slovakia after his 5-0 win over 2018 world silver medalist Avtandil Kentchadze of Georgia.

The 2017 junior world champion, Fix, beat Arsen Harutyunyan of Armenia in just 28 seconds 10-0 after a technical fall to set up a final with the RWF's Abasgadzhi Magomedov.

In the 125kg division, Amir Zare of Iran defeated Turkey's two-time world champion Taha Akgul to face three-time defending champion Geno Patriashvili of Georgia.
