Jeon battled hard to force a decider before completing an 11-7, 8-11, 11-8, 15-13, 11-2 triumph.

"I did all the preparation I could for this match, but it turned out to be tougher than expected," said Jeon.

"My opponent’s strokes were much faster and more aggressive than I imagined.

"At the start, the way I played was rather hesitant.

"After losing the first two games, I thought 'Why not just enjoy the rest of the match?'.

"That was also when I started to go all out."

Jeon now goes up against Japan’s Hina Hayata, who defeated Minami Ando 11-6, 11-8, 15-13 in an all-Japanese quarter-final.

Ukraine’s Margaryta Pesotska also had to dig deep to beat Brazil’s Bruna Takahashi 11-6, 11-7, 9-11, 10-12, 11-7 to set up a semi-final meeting with Hong Kong’s Doo Hoi Kem, who came from a game down to see off India’s Archana Girish Kamath 9-11, 13-11, 11-8, 11-6.

Fourth seed Liam Pitchford of England advanced to the semi-finals of the men’s singles after downing Hong Kong’s Wong Chun Ting 11-4, 11-7, 13-11.

Pitchford will next face Brazil’s Hugo Calderano, who came from one game behind to beat France’s Simon Gauzy 8-11, 11-4, 11-3, 12-10.

The other semi-final will be contested by South Korea’s Lee Sang-su and Slovenia’s Darko Jorgic.

Lee overcame Finland’s Benedek Olah 11-13, 11-6, 11-8, 11-7, while Jorgic stormed to a 12-10, 11-6, 11-9 victory over Croatia’s Andrej Gacina.

The first title of the tournament in Doha was won by Japanese duo Shunsuke Togami and Hayata in the mixed doubles.

Togami and Hayata proved too strong for South Koreans Jeon and Jang Woo-jin, winning 11-6, 3-11, 11-2, 11-8.
