Keshavan has asked for leaders to work to make national governing bodies eligible for central funding - something they are not at present, severely limiting he resources athletes have at their disposal.

"There are 150 days left for the Winter Olympics," Keshavan tweeted.

"A reminder to the government that not a single winter sports federation is currently recognised and eligible for funding in India.

"Athletes are doing crowdfunding online!"

Keshavan represented India at the Winter Olympics a record six times and was forced to resort to crowdfunding regularly throughout his career.

For Pyeongchang 2018, the luge athlete asked the public for just over INR 1 million (£9,830/$13,600/€11,500) to help ensure his participation.

His first appearance at the Games was at Nagano 1998 where he became the youngest luge Olympian in history.

Keshavan was also the Asian champion in luge in 2011, 2012, 2016, and 2017.

Keshavan was appointed high-performance director and head coach of the Luge Federation of India in August 2020.
