Coleman Stewart won the men's 100m backstroke in match two of the ISL in a world record time of 48.33 ©ISL

Coleman Stewart of the United States set a world record in the men’s 100 metres backstroke on the way to helping his team Cali Condors to a convincing victory in the second match of the 2021 International Swimming League (ISL).

Stewart won the race in a time of 48.33sec, and in the process jackpotted every other swimmer in the race for the first time in ISL history.

Jackpotting involves a swimmer earning points off their competitors based on their winning margin, and with Stewart finishing just over two seconds clear of his nearest rival in the race - compatriot and team mate Justin Ress - he earned 37 points for the Cali Condors.

Stewart later earned a second win for the team in the men’s 50m backstroke skins, and earned the Most Valuable Player award for the Condors.

The Condors finished the match with 707 points, with LA Current ending second on 402.5, Tokyo Frog Kings in third on 371.5 and New York Breakers last on 265 points.

Cali Condors started the second day with a 92 point advantage and won a total of nine races on the day to ensure their lead was never under threat.

Their first two race wins came courtesy of members of the same family with American Caeleb Dressel victorious in the men’s 100m freestyle, before his compatriot and sister Sherridon won the women’s 100m backstroke.

Caeleb later earned a third victory of the day for the family in the men’s 100m individual medley.

Following Stewart’s world record there was further Condors success for more American swimmers - Beata Nelson in the women’s 100m individual medley and 50m backstroke skins, Lilly King in the women’s 100m breaststroke, Kelsi Dahlia in the women’s 50m butterfly and then the mixed 4x100m medley quartet of Caeleb Dressel, Ress and fellow Americans Molly Hannis and Erika Brown.

Match three of ISL 2021, which is taking place at the Piscina Felice Scandone in Naples, is set to take place on September 2 and 3, feature Energy Standard, London Roar, Iron and New York Breakers.
