The host nation finished top of the both the senior and junior medals tables, and was particularly dominant in men's senior competition, winning seven of 10 finals.

Suleyman Bershigadov got a unanimous decision versus Akhmed Nutsalkhanov in an all-Russian flyweight bout, while Gadzhimurad Zavaev at featherweight, lightweight Omaraskhab Yusupov and light-heavyweight Gadzhimurad Bagaudinov also won all-Russian finals.

Shamil Magomedgadzhiev won the strawweight gold medal, Zaurbek Magomedov was crowned super-heavyweight European champion after beating Kazakhstan's Talgat Zhiyentayev via a technical knockout and Denis Zeinedinov beat Bahrain's Sultan Omarov in the middleweight final.

Bahrain however did win five senior gold medals - via men's heavyweight Rasul Magomedov, men's welterweight Ramazan Gitinov and three women - strawweight Aieza Ramos Bertolso, flyweight Beatriz Consuli Diniz and featherweight Sabrina Laurentina De Sousa.

Half of the senior women's gold medals went to Bahraini fighters, with Poland winning two - through bantamweight Paulina Kontna and atomweight Magdalena Czaban - and Russia the remaining medal.

Russia won 35 senior medals in all, and 17 in the junior tournament, including four golds.

Across 27 senior and junior weight classes, 10 nations won medals - Russia, Bahrain, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Bulgaria, Poland, Portugal, New Zealand, Italy and Finland.
