The International Wheelchair Rugby Federation (IWRF) will stage a first-ever Sports Science and Sports Medicine Conference in September, working with Loughborough University's Peter Harrison Centre for Disability Sport.

The online event will cover topics relevant to the sport, including classification, nutrition, thermoregulation, autonomic dysreflexia and shoulder health.

It is billed a bringing together leading coaches, medical staff, practitioners and students from the fields of sports science, medicine, physiotherapy, coaching and strength and conditioning.

IWRF chief medical officer Ken Lee and chief executive Steve Griffiths will be among the team delivering the event. 

Professor Vicky Goosey-Tolfrey, director of the Peter Harrison Centre for Disability Sport and an International Paralympic Committee Paralympic Scientific Award recipient in 2017, will join them.

Viola Altman, an IWRF classifier and honorary clinical lecturer in rehabilitation at Loughborough University, is another confirmed speaker.

The event is due to take place on September 22 and will be free to attend.
