The Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) has thanked Asco Motors for its ongoing support after extending a partnership between the organisations.

Asco Motors is a distributor for Worldwide Olympic Partner Toyota, one of the leading sponsors of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Asco Motors has been a FASANOC partner since 2017.

The company will now support the FASANOC’s Voices of the Athletes (VOA) programme by funding a series of public service announcements (PSAs) which will be broadcast on television over a three-month period.

The VOA programme last year recorded 14 announcements for a television campaign on its key messages of Be a Leader, Play True, Play Safe and Go Green.

Support from Asco will allow for a second series of announcements to be broadcast.

"We believe that these VOA PSAs have been well received, not only by our communities but also by the greater Olympic Family, as the messages they contain can be related to by other countries who face the same issues," said Lorraine Mar, FASANOC chief executive.

"To have these aired again, through this partnership affirms that we’re doing the right thing.

"Television right now is an important medium in Fiji as we battle COVID-19 and to have our messages seen throughout the country at this time is uplifting.

"I admit this situation is unprecedented however the messages of Play True, Go Green, addressing non-communicable diseases, drugs awareness still holds true."

The Play True message focuses on anti-doping and the use of drugs in sports, as well as awareness on types of drugs, their effects and how the community can work together to promote a drug-free community.

The Go Green promotion aims to minimise the use of single-use plastic bags, while promoting the five Rs message of refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle and repurpose.

The VOA campaign also calls for people to Stay Healthy, focusing on the causes, effects and prevention of non-communicable diseases, a major concern in Fiji.

Asco support for the VOA will also focus on climate change, equity and inclusion, as well as Olympic values of excellence, friendship, joy of effort, balance of the body, mind and will, fair play and respect.

“As Fiji’s most innovative automobile provider and as an active member of the community, we relate to the messages relayed in these PSAs," said Craig Sims, Asco chief executive.

"I echo Toyota’s message when they joined IOC [International Olympic Committee] that there is power in sports as it shows human achievement and accomplishment and this association contributes to our on-going engagement with the community."

The campaigns started airing on Fiji TV from May 23.

The videos will play for three months, ending on August 22, after the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games conclude.

The company donated of a Toyota Hilux, a 40-horsepower Yamaha outboard engine and Bridgestone tyres as main prizes for a fundraising lottery for the 2019 Pacific Games in Samoa.

Asco also provided five vehicles to the FASANOC to use for the Commonwealth Games Queen's Baton Relay in 2017.
