Spanish and Russian shooters impressed on the first day of qualifying for the trap competition at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup in Cairo.

Spain's three-time world champion Alberto Fernández and Russia's Athens 2004 Olympic champion Aleksey Alipov both scored 74 points over the first three rounds of trap qualifying in the Egyptian capital.

They were joined at the top of the leaderboard by respective compatriots Joan Garcia and Kirill Bagrov with 73.

Tomasz Pasierbski of Poland also sits on the same score. 

Ekaterina Subbotina topped the women's trap qualifying with a score of 72. 

She was followed by Spain's 2015 world champion Fátima Gálvez on 71 and fellow Russian Daria Semianova on 69.

Manuel Murcia, Fernández and Garcia then impressed in the men's trap team qualifying event, achieving 218 points.

They were followed by a Russian team of Alipov, Gennadii Mamkin and Maxim Kabatskiy on 216.

Croatian brothers Josip and Anton Glasnović and teammate Giovanni Cernogoraz sit in third on 214. 

Gálvez was part of a Spanish team including María Quintanal Zubizarreta and Francisca Muñoz that scored 203 in the women's trap team qualifiers. 

Subbotina, Semianova and Iuliia Saveleva helped Russia to the same score. 

India's Rajeshwari Kumari, Manisha Keer and Kirti Gupta trail on 192. 

There will be two more qualifying rounds in the men and women's individual trap contests tomorrow, with the finals scheduled for the evening. 

Four more rounds of qualifying are scheduled to take place in the team events.
