Hosts Cameroon are through to the semi-finals of the African Nations Championship after they fought back from a goal down to beat two-time winners DR Congo.

All three goals came in a thrilling first half at the Japoma Stadium in Douala as Makabi Lilepo gave DR Congo the lead after 22 minutes.

DR Congo's advantage did not last long, though, as Yannick Ndjeng restored parity for Cameroon six minutes later.

Felix Tcheoude scored what proved to be the winner as the match approached half-time.

Tcheoude's effort took a wicked deflection to put the hosts in front for the first time, and they managed to thwart DR Congo's attacks in the second half to book their place in the last four.

Mali are also through after they beat Congo 5-4 on penalties at the Ahmadou Ahidju Stadium in Yaoundé.

Mamadou Traore and Mouusa Kyabou had the best chances for Mali, while Gautrand Ngounimba also came close for Congo, but the match ended goalless after 120 minutes.

Mamadou Coulibaly netted the winning penalty for Mali, who will be aiming to go one better than when they finished runners-up in 2016.

The tournament is set to continue tomorrow with the last two quarter-finals.
