Chengdu 2021 has announced the head of delegations meeting for the International University Sport Federation (FISU) World University Games will be held online.

The head of delegations meeting had initially been scheduled to take place from April 19 to 21.

Chengdu 2021 said the decision to move the meeting online was made after discussions with FISU.

The decision took into account uncertainties over the coronavirus pandemic, with the health and safety of all the delegations viewed as the key priority.

Dates for the online meetings are yet to be determined.

The head of delegations meeting will outline preparations for the university sport event, which is scheduled for August 18 to 29.

There are 18 sports listed on the Chengdu 2021 programme.

It will be the third time in 20 years that China stages the event, after Universiades in Shenzhen in 2011 and Beijing in 2001.

The Games had initially been scheduled for August 8 to 19.

Chengdu 2021 and FISU opted to delay the event following the rescheduling of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
