The Regional Open in Croatia's capital Zagreb, due to have taken place from March 29 to April 5, has been postponed along with the World Open in French town Laval, scheduled to have been held from April 23 to 30.

Another event in France, the Nantes Regional Open, is under review.

As things stand, competition is set to run from May 30 to June 6.

"We are in regular contact with the organisers of this competition," a BISFed statement reads.

"At the moment no decision has been taken, but it is worth noting that the Governments of many countries whose athletes would be attending have placed severe travel and other restrictions on their citizens.

"We expect that such restrictions will continue to be a complicating factor in planning the competition."

The Zagreb Regional Open and Laval World Open provided the last two classification opportunities for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, but it was confirmed today that the Games would not go ahead as initially planned because of the coronavirus pandemic and has therefore been postponed until no later than the summer of 2021.

"This is possibly the most testing time any of us has experienced and sport is as badly affected by the coronavirus as any other industry," a BISFed statement reads.

"We are of course aware that the worldwide boccia family is concerned to know what will happen next; there are so many unanswered questions about what the future holds.

"BISFed monitors the best available advice daily with a view to making sensible fact-based decisions on future events. 

"The safety of athletes, technical officials and spectators remains our number one priority."

Last month, Tokyo 2020 officials pretended to be athletes at a rearranged boccia test event for the Paralympics.

No elite athletes were involved at all after the competition's initial postponement due to the coronavirus outbreak.
