The Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines (FESSAP) celebrated the achievement of its athletes at a Board of Trustees meeting.

FESSAP President Angel Ngu reported on the organisation's performances at the Naples 2019 Summer World University Games and Krasnoyarsk 2019 Winter World University Games.

Ernest John Obiena earned pole vault gold for the Philippines at Naples 2019, only the country's second victory at the summer event.

Wesley So had previously claimed a gold medal in the men’s chess competition during Kazan 2013.

“As you all know, the Philippines captured a gold medal at the Napoli Universiade in men’s athletics," said Ngu, as reported by Manila Standard

"For that alone, FESSAP is very proud of this achievement."

The Philippines also sent an athlete to the Winter World University Games for the first time ever, with Misha Fabian competing in the figure skating contest.

Throughout 2019, FESSAP participated in several World University Championship events for sports such as wushu, weightlifting, squash and muay thai.

This year, Ngu revealed they are set to be represented at the World University Golf Championship in Taichung in Chinese Taipei from June 17 to 20.

FESSAP will also be sending a pair of student-athletes and two officials to the Hungarian capital of Budapest for the International University Sports Federation Forum in August.

Ngu then informed those in attendance that the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) University Sports Council has officially recognised FESSAP as a regular member, and have been invited to participate in the ASEAN University Games in the Thai city of Ubon Ratcharhani in December.

In addition, preparations are underway for the Lucerne 2021 Winter World University Games and Chengdu 2021 Summer World University Games.

The FESSAP Executive Committee are expected to be announcing the Philippines’ head of delegation for both competitions soon.

During the meeting, a number of FESSAP patrons were recognised for supporting the organisation.

Ngu distributed certificates to supporters such as the Asian University Basketball Federation secretary general, Park Hyun Mo of South Korea.
