Nina Ortlieb of Austria earned her first International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine Skiing World Cup win in the Italian resort of La Thuile.

The 23-year-old triumphed in the Super-G event, recording a winning time of 1min 11.72sec.

She placed just in front of home favourite Federica Brignone, with the Italian finishing just 0.01 seconds off the mark.

Switzerland's Corinne Suter was third in 1:11.79 after losing control of her right pole halfway through her run.

She remains ahead in the Super-G standings, however, with just two more races to go in the discipline this season.

Suter sits on 360 points, followed by Brignone on 341 and Nicole Schmidhofer of Switzerland on 217.

Brignone extended her lead in the overall World Cup standings to 153 points, with Mikaela Shiffrin of the United States, on 1225, still absent from competition.

Petra Vlhová of Slovakia is 189 points behind Brignone in the standings.

Competition continues tomorrow in La Thuile with a second Super-G event and the final alpine combined contest of the season.

Action is taking place in front of limited spectators due to the outbreak of coronavirus in northern Italy.
