The Pan American University Sports Seminar got under way in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro.

The event was jointly organised by the Brazilian Confederation of University Sports (CBDU), the International University Sports Federation (FISU) and FISU America.

It aims to help FISU support the development of its Member Federations and learn more about their needs and expectations.

CDBU President and FISU vice-president Luciano Cabral welcomed delegates to the event, also holding talks with representatives of National Federations and higher education institutions.

FISU education and development director Lilia Barieva and development manager Tarmo Jaakson spoke of the need to connect with university students, stressing the need for National Federations such as CBDU to help achieve this contact.

FISU's new visual identity and logo was also presented by marketing director Christian Monzani.

Earlier in the day, Marisol Pedraza, FISU America Games director, spoke about the sports facilities in Mérida.

The Games are taking place in the Mexican city from May 31 to June 10.

The FISU America Basketball 3x3 was also discussed, as was the 2020 FISU America Forum, which will take place in Costa Rica.

Brazil Olympic Committee President Paulo Wanderley was in attendance, with the seminar held in the organisation's auditorium.

"It’s great when all learn from each other," said Barieva.

"It’s a great opportunity for other federations to see the CBDU example, how they cooperate with the Olympic Committee and how they work closely with the Organising Committees."
