Thomas Dressen is set to return to the site of a season-ending crash, as the International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine World Cup continues in Beaver Creek in the United States.

The German tore knee ligaments and dislocated his shoulder in the crash at the American resort in November last year.

He returned to action at Lake Louise last week, topping the podium in the opening men's downhill event of the new season.

Dressen will now aim to continue his remarkable comeback as the season continues this weekend as part of the Birds of Prey World Cup.

Beat Feuz of Switzerland is considered to be his main opponent, having won the 2018 event before going on to claim the overall men's downhill title.

Competition is also scheduled in the Super-G and giant slalom events.

Stefan Luitz of Germany is back to defend his Beaver Creek title in the giant slalom, while Alexis Pinturault of France, last year's second-overall alpine skier, is also expected to feature.

In the Super-G, last year's overall winner and world champion, Dominik Paris of Italy, is considered the favourite.

Action begins tomorrow with the Super-G, before the downhill competition on Saturday (December 7).

The event then concludes with the giant slalom on Sunday (December 8).
