The International Fistball Association (IFA) has awarded the 2020 edition of its Women's World Championship to Chile.

Action will take place between November 2 and 7 at Club Gimnástico Alemán de Llanquihue after strong support was received from local Government.

Chile last hosted the Women's World Championship in capital city Santiago in 2010 while Llanquihue staged the men's event in 1992.

"At a first pre-event visit, we got a very good impression of their plans and of the strong support of the city of Llanquihue," said IFA President Karl Weiß.

"Also, the local press supported the application very much.

"The organising team is very motivated and you could feel how important it is for them to host the World Championships."

The Under-18 World Championships in 2006 and the Masters World Cup in 2015 were also staged in Llanquihue, as well as South American Championships.

Situated on the banks of Llanquihue Lake, the local area offers views of the Osorno Volcano and is described by the IFA as one of the most beautiful places in the world.

It has links to Germany, fistball's dominant force, due to settlement in the 1800s and a dialect of the German language is spoken there.

Up to 16 teams will compete in 2020 at an event which will qualify countries for the 2021 World Games in Birmingham in Alabama.

Germany will be aiming to win the title for the fourth time in a row and a seventh time in all.

"We are very proud to be host city of the next Women's World Championship and that we could convince IFA to award this event to Chile," said Organising Committee head Hernán Mödinger, who has pledged low ticket prices.

"After a lot of negotiations with the city and the government in Santiago, we get a strong support which helps us to run such a big event here in Chile.

"We are very glad to welcome the best female fistball teams of the world here in Llanquihue to celebrate a wonderful fistball event in 2020."
