The 23-year-old is unbeaten internationally this year after triumphing at Archery World Cup stages in Medellin and Shanghai.

She broke her own world record for the 72-arrow 70-metres ranking round, scoring 692 out of 720 points, to seed first at this event. 

A 6-2 win over Germany’s Michelle Kroppen sealed Kang's gold-medal-match berth at the fields of rugby club The Dukes today.

"In the semi-finals, I told myself to just shoot nines and because of that I was able to make good shots and ended up with a high score," Kang said.

"I also kept reminding myself of times I’ve come in first and imagining that I can actually win in the finals.

"Right now, I’m just so happy and proud of myself.

"I’m incredibly happy."

Kang’s opponent in the final is second seed Lei, who wrapped up a 6-0 semi-final victory over South Korea’s Choi Mi-sun with a pair of perfect 30-point sets.

Neither Kang nor Lei have earned medals at the World Championships.

The United States has more individual finalists than any other country at the 2019 World Archery Championships, managing three in total.

Brady Ellison will face Malaysia’s Khairul Anuar Mohamad in the men’s recurve final, while Paige Pearce will take on Russia's Natalia Avdeeva in the women's compound gold medal match and rookie James Lutz has a match-up with shock Norwegian finalist Anders Faugstad for the men's compound crown.

Seeded second, Ellison secured a place with a 7-1 win over Italy’s Mauro Nespoli. 

The four-time Archery World Cup champion also earned the US a single recurve men’s quota spot for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games by making the final. 

On the other side of the draw, world number one Lee Woo-seok of South Korea was upset by Italy's Marco Galiazzo and two-times world champion Kim Woo-jin, also of South Korea, was shocked by Bangladesh’s Ruman Shana, who then also beat home favourite Sjef van den Berg.

It was Malaysian Mohamad that emerged from the broken bracket, defeating Shana 7-3 in the semi-finals.

Pearce, the reigning World Archery field champion, is the 20th seed and needed to win six matches to make her final.

She beat India's Jyothi Surekha Vennam 143-140 in the semi-finals, while Avdeeva defeated Turkey's Yeşim Bostan 149-145.

Lutz, meanwhile, reached the men's compound final by overcoming fellow American Braden Gellenthien 148-145.

His gold medal match opponent, Faugstad, stunned top seed Kim Jong-ho of South Korea in the other semi-final with a 147-146 victory.

Lutz, 21, only made his debut at last month's Archery World Cup in Antalya, prevailing with a perfect 150-point match in the final.

The 23rd seed ousted world number one Mike Schloesser of the Netherlands in the quarter-finals today.

The line-up for the mixed team recurve final was also decided today with home favourites Gabriela Bayardo and van den Berg and South Korea's Kang and Lee both earning their place in the gold medal match.

The semi-finals saw Bayardo and van den Berg beat Chinese Taipei's Lei and Tang Chih-chun 5-1 and Kang and Lee defeat Italy's Vanessa Landi and Nespoli by the same scoreline.

The mixed team compound final will be between France's Sophie Dodemont and Pierre-Julien Deloche and South Korea's So Chae-won and Kim Jong-ho after both pairings came through their last-four ties.

Dodemont and Deloche overcame Chinese Taipei's Chen Yi-hsuan and Chen Chieh-lun 156-154, while top seeds So and Kim claimed a 159-157 win over Colombia's Sara López and Daniel Munoz.

Other finals determined today were those in the men's and women's compound team events and men's and women's recurve team events.

South Korea and Turkey will contest the men's compound team final, while Chinese Taipei and the US will do battle in the women's equivalent.

China and India will lock horns in the men's recurve team gold medal match with Chinese Taipei and South Korea through to the corresponding women's final.

Action is due to resume on Saturday (June 15), when the compound finals will take place.

The recurve finals are scheduled for Sunday (June 16).
