Brest will be the first Belarusian region to receive the Minsk 2019 European Games Flame of Peace as part of the Torch Relay for the event.

The Relay is due to begin in Rome, home of the headquarters of the European Olympic Committees, on May 3 before travelling through Slovenia, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland.

It is scheduled to arrive at the Polish-Belarusian border near Brest on the afternoon of May 12, when the Flame of Peace will be carried to the Brest Hero Fortress Memorial.

A concert will be held in celebration at the Lenina Square in the city of Brest that evening.

A group of 50 people will carry the Flame of Peace through Brest region, with the Torch Relay passing through Baranovichi, Pinsk, Mikashevichi, Kossovo and Kamanets as well as the city of Brest.

This includes Yuliya Nesterenko, the Olympic 100 metres gold medallist at Athens 2004.
