Next year’s Winter World Masters Games will form part of a “sustainable long-term future” for the Masters World Championships, the International Ski Federation (FIS) says.

The Championships, which will feature 12 sports disciplines including cross country skiing, ski jumping and biathlon across 24 age groups, will see as many as 2,000 medals awarded in four Austrian resorts.

All Nordic skiing events will be held in Seefeld, which this year hosted the World Nordic Ski Championships, with the FIS saying it will set “new standards” for Masters sport.

Other events will be held in Innsbruck, Telfs and Kitzbuhel.

“Taking into consideration both social and economic factors, the Winter World Masters Games 2020 will form part of a sustainable long-term future for the Masters World Championships and set new standards when it comes to the facilities and infrastructure for Masters sport,” the FIS said.

“As such, the sport festival will offer a new perspective for hosting international competitions for athletes in the Masters age class.”

The Games will take place from January 10 to 19.
