Gjessing has previously won four World Championships in the women’s up to 58 kilograms K44 category. 

She has also got four European Championships titles and a World Games title to her name, giving her nine straight tournament wins since taking up the sport in 2013. 

This means Gjessing is currently the sport's only undefeated fighter.

Aside from giving Gjessing the chance to maintain her unbeaten run, the World Championships will also help the Danish fighter in her bid to qualify for next year's Paralympic Games in Tokyo with maximum ranking points available at the G-10 tournament.

Taekwondo is due to make make its Paralympic debut at Tokyo 2020. 

This year's two-day World Championships at the Antalya Arena are the largest yet, with nearly 400 athletes from 69 nations set to compete. 

Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Switzerland, Slovakia, Uganda and Tanzania are all participating in the tournament for the first time. 

Hosts Turkey have the largest group of athletes, with 56 fighters taking part. 

Other stars due to join Gjessing in Antalya will be France's Bopha Kong, who went all of 2018 undefeated in the men’s up to 61kg K43 category. 

He has had less success at World Championships however, winning silver in 2017 and only claiming three golds at the past seven world competitions.

Great Britain's Amy Truesdale, defending champion in the women’s over-58 kilograms K44 category, will look to use the World Championships as a return to form.

Following an undefeated 2017, Truesdale lost three times last year. 

Organisers have touted the men's over 75kg K44 division as the event to watch, with four previous world champions competing.

Russia’s Aliskhab Ramazanov, Iran's Asghar Aziziaghdam, Croatia’s Ivan Mikulic and Turkey’s Bayram Kayan will also be joined by United States' Evan Medell, currently at number two in the rankings.
