Russia continued to enjoy positive results on the third day of the World University Boxing Championships at the Oirat-Arena in the Republic of Kalmykia city of Elista.

Home boxer Pavel Doroshilov was an emphatic 5-0 winner over Spain’s Drissi El Ghadfa in the last of the super-heavyweight over-91 kilogram quarter-finals.

He will now meet Latvia's Servuts Evanders, who had a bye to the semi-final.

Two others had byes to the second semi-final - Dzmitry Makarevich of Belarus and Armenia's Gurgen Hovhannisyan.

In heavyweight, 91kg class quarter-finals, Adam Hamori of Hungary beat Max Degenhardt of Germany 5-0, and Henryk Sargsyan of Armenia beat Zhang Zhi-jun of Chinese Taipei on a first round knock-out.

Russia’s light heavyweight 81kg class boxer Magomedrasul Suleymanov beat Mihail Uncuic of Moldova 5-0 in his quarter-final, and two other quarter-finals at that weight saw Shabbos Negmatuloev of Turkmenistan beat He Shao-Hui of Chinese Taipei 5-0 and Hles Sinkevich of Belarus beat Ambroisc Preira of France 3-2.

In middleweight 75kg class quarter-finals, Vytautas Balsys of Lithuania.beat Adilet Batyrialev of Kyrgyzstan  5-0, Rafal Perczynski of Poland beat Chinese Taipei’s Lee Sheng-Ta on points after the referee stopped the contest in round one due to injury, and Viktar Dziashkevich of Belarus beat Spain’s Entrena Cuadrado 5-0.

Pan Hung-Ming  of Chinese Taipei beat Milan Prat of France 5-0 in their welterweight 69kg quarter final, and in others Bekbolat Kuramyssov of Kazakhstan beat Aliaksei Dziarnov of Belarus 5-0 and Filip Wachala of Poland beat Japan’s Nobuhiro Hiranaka 5-0.

Russia’s Gabil Mammedov beat Shimada Junya of Japan 5-0 in his lightweight 60kg class quarter-final, while Yerzhan Ordabayev of Kazakhstan beat Elias Friha of France 4-1.

Semi-finals are due to be held on Wednesday (September 5).

Finals will take place the following day, where gold medals will be awarded.

A total of 10 men’s and three women’s weight categories are being contested in the city.

Organisers state that than 120 athletes from 22 countries are competing.

Entrance for spectators to all events of the World University Boxing Championship is free.

Aside from competition, a cultural programme is due to run alongside the event.

The International University Sports Federation competition is part of the World University Championship series.

There are 34 stand-alone World University Championship events on the 2018 calendar.
