Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) have supported a campaign by The Walt Disney Italy Company to help children become more physically active.

The campaign, titled “Let’s move, Guys!”, was launched in December in Italian primary and secondary schools.

Over 3,000 classes with more than 500 projects have been part of the effort, with the purpose to utlise some of children’s most loved characters in order to promote sport and its values.

The values of sharing, social inclusion and growth were highlighted, while the campaign also sought to encourage children to have a correct diet and healthy lifestyle.

The initiative was launched after a survey showed that one in every four children between six and 17 years old do not practice any physical activity or sport in the county.

Causes were viewed as both economical, but also related to the impact of technology.

"Our goal is to convey the importance and the beauty of exercise and daily-life correct habits to children," Daniel Frigo, country manager of The Walt Disney Company Italy, said.

"We want to bring this message to schools – a place of learning, but also of growth and social inclusion – by developing a simple and engaging approach, with fun materials and unique experiences that can inspire kids to learn how to keep fit and healthy while having fun."

CONI collaborated with a series of National Federations to have ambassadors record video tutorials to give evidence on the importance of sport.

They included rhythmic gymnasts Alessia Maurelli and Alexandra Agiurgiuculese, along with artistic gymnasts Vanessa Ferrari, Giorgia Villa, Asia and Alice D’Amato.

Basketball players Cecilia Zandalasini, Francesca Dotto and Diego Flaccadori, judo’s Matteo Marconcini and Edwige Gwend, and karate’s Viviana Bottaro were also involved.

The participants were rounded off by wrestling’s Frank Chamizo and rugby players Giovanbattista Venditti, Maxime Mbandà, Angelo Esposito and Tommaso Benvenuti.

Pupils took part in educational games and involved in team competitions, where they had the mission of expressing what good habits are in three ways.

They could either produce audio, such as song lyrics, along with creating videos or write stories.

A total of 16 winning classes are set to participate in "Let’s Move Day" in May, where an entire school day will be spent with their favourite sport idols, where they can receive kit and prizes from them.
