Liechtenstein's Tina Weirather successfully defended her overall super-G title with a sixth-place finish at the International Ski Federation Alpine Skiing World Cup finals in Åre.

The 28-year-old, who won a bronze medal in the discipline at last month's Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, ensured she ended the season at the top of the super-G leaderboard after rival Lara Gut of Switzerland failed to complete today's race.

Weirather's performance saw her move on to a total of 461 points, with Gut forced to settle for second place on 375.

Anna Veith of Austria was third, a further 36 points adrift of Weirather.

Olympic downhill champion Sofia Goggia of Italy, who clinched the crystal globe in her preferred discipline in the Swedish resort yesterday, claimed a shock victory as she won her first super-G event of the season.

Goggia clocked 1min 07.92sec to end the campaign in style, while Germany's Viktoria Rebensburg was second after finishing 0.32sec slower than the Italian.

American star Lindsey Vonn was third as Weirather could only manage sixth having completed the course 1.08 behind Goggia.

Austria's Vincent Kriechmayr secured his second consecutive triumph having shared victory with team-mate Matthias Mayer in yesterday's downhill as he finished the shortened super-G in 49.43.

Christof Innerhofer of Italy was second, 0.04sec behind the Austrian, while Olympic downhill gold medallist Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway and Germany's Thomas Dressen tied for third.

Norwegian Kjetil Jansrud had already wrapped up the men's super-G crystal globe before the concluding race in Åre.

The event continues tomorrow with the mixed team event, which made its Olympic debut at Pyeongchang 2018.
