The Cambodian Taekwondo Federation (CTF) is hoping that the sport will be included on the programme when the country hosts the 2023 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Phnom Penh.

CTF chairman Keo Remy made the remarks at a press conference reviewing the Federation's activities in 2017.

"Key milestones for the Federation in 2018 include trying to create more domestic matches, strengthening the competitiveness of our athletes, and establishing clubs in the provinces," Remy, who is also President of the Southeast Asian Taekwondo Federation, was reported as saying by the Khmer Times.

"The Federation has to do other activities if it is to participate in major events like the SEA Games."

The CTF has also revealed plans to perform at the Opening Ceremony of the second biennial National Games in Phnom Penh in May.

Sorn Seavmey's gold medal-winning performance at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon has helped taekwondo grow in Cambodia.

Seavmey was the flagbearer for her country at the Opening Ceremony of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
