Mikaela Shiffrin followed up yesterday’s victory in the giant slalom by clinching gold in today's parallel slalom in a dominant performance at the International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine Skiing World Cup event at Club des Sports, Courchevel.

Shiffrin of the United States, last year’s World Champion, recorded a time of 18.79 seconds in the final to take gold ahead of Slovakia’s Petra Vlhova, a gold medalist at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck, Austria, who came just four-hundredths of a second behind.

The 22-year-old Slovak, who has three World Cup slalom wins to her name, had recorded the fastest winning time of the night, 18.78sec, when she defeated Norway's Maren Skjoeld in her semi-final.

Today’s victory in France means Shiffrin, who became the youngest-ever winner of an Olympic slalom gold at Sochi 2014, has taken her fourth World Cup gold of the season and has thus increased her points tally to 721 at the top of the overall FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup rankings, 291 points ahead of Germany's Viktoria Rebensburg, in second, who did not compete in today.

Italy’s Irene Curtoni, a gold medalist at the 2017 World Military Games in Sochi, claimed the final place on the podium after beating Skjoeld in the final with a time of 19.34sec.

Although Skjoeld failed to complete the race, fourth is still her highest finish at a World Cup event.

The next ladies' FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup event will be another giant slalom competition which takes place from December 28 to 29 in Lienz, Austria.
