World Games star Ekaterina Mikhaylushkina is one name hoping to impress at the World Underwater Federation (CMAS) World Junior Finswimming Championships in Tomsk.

The 15-year-old Russian won individual gold in the 100 metres surface at the World Games in Polish city Wrocław earlier this month, as well as silver in the 200m surface.

She will now be hoping to impress in her home country at an event involving 26 nations and 231 athletes.

Competition will take place until August 5 in the Siberian city, at the Aquatics Centre Zvezdniy.

Mikhaylushkina is also the junior world record holder in the 100m surface and boasts the best time of the season in the 200m surface, so will be confident of a good showing.

Surface events for males and females will be held over 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1,500m.

The apnea event will be held over 50m, while there will be immersion races over 100m and 400m and bi-fin competition over 50m, 100m, 200m and 400m.

Three surface relay competitions will be held - 4x50m mixed, 4x100m and 4x200m.

A 4x100m bi-fin relay will also take place.

In addition, long distance open-water events will take place in the 6,000m individual and 4x2,000m relay.

These will take place in Lake Berezkino, located 15 kilometres outside of Tomsk.

According to CMAS, the World Junior Championships are happening at a "key time to understand which direction finswimming can take in the next years".
