Japanese company Molten will provide the balls in the volleyball competition at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games after they signed a deal with the sport's governing body.

World ParaVolley have reached an agreement with the supplier, marking the first time the organisation has penned a ball manufacturer deal.

Balls designed by Molten, whose headquarters are in Hiroshima, will feature at all World ParaVolley events between now and the end of 2020, when the deal is set to expire.

They will supply event organisers with complimentary Flistatec volleyballs and complimentary gold volleyballs for presentation purposes.

The volleyballs will then remain in the possession of the Local Organising Committee for future use.

"The agreement with Molten represents a significant, positive relationship for World ParaVolley for the next four years and will benefit all athletes and the Federation,” said World ParaVolley President Barry Couzner.

“Molten brings with it a solid world-wide reputation for quality products and has networks in all areas of the world.

"We are very privileged to have Molten as our partner.”

As part of the agreement, Molten have also vowed to support World ParaVolley's development activities by supplying volleyballs each year for training and education courses.

The company will also provide balls for Para beach volleyball, a sport which is not currently on the Paralympic programme.

The men's sitting volleyball competition at last year's Paralympic Games saw Iran beat Bosnia and Herzegovina on what proved to be an emotional occasion.

The gold medal match was held the day after Bahman Golbarnezhad was tragically killed while competing in cycling at the Games.

In the women's event, the United States ended China's 12-year domination of the Paralympic competition with victory in the final.
