The women's event at the South Korean resort will mark a first opportunity for the world leading speed stars to compete on the course before the Games, which are scheduled to take place between February 9 and 25 next year.

Training has taken place over the last two days before racing begins tomorrow. 

Those competing include United States skier Vonn, the downhill champion at the Vancouver 2010 Games, who was fastest across both training runs.

"I really liked the course," she said after training.

"It wasn't perfect, but it's a beautiful track. 

"I think when the snow gets harder, it will be pretty fast and extremely fun."

Slovenia's world champion and World Cup downhill leader Ilka Štuhec is among other entries.

Austria's Marcel Hirscher will seek to continue the form he showed when winning the giant slalom world title in St Moritz when the men's competition heads to Kranjska Gora.

France's Alexis Pinturault and Norway's Henrik Kristoffersen are among other leading contenders in the Slovenian resort.

Tomorrow's race will be followed by a slalom competition on Sunday (March 5).
