Tissot has been announced as the official timekeeper of the 2015 Winter Universiade ©FISUSwiss watch manufacturer Tissot has been announced as the official timekeeper of the 2015 Winter Universiade in Granada.

Under the agreement with the International University Sports Federatation (FISU), Tissot will provide timing, scoring, on-venue results, web results, and accreditation services, as well as provision of the corresponding equipment by Swiss Timing, for the duration of the Games.

The announcement means a continuation of Tissot's commitment to FISU following their partnership during the 2013 Summer and Winter Universiades in Kazan, Russia, and Trentino, Italy, respectively.

"FISU and its unique community of student-athletes worldwide always aim at excellence and precision as its long-term partner, Tissot," said Eric Saintrond, chief executive and secretary general of FISU.

"Therefore, we are glad to collaborate with Tissot and Swiss Timing for this 27th Winter Universiade."

Tissot was founded in 1853 in Le Locie, Switzerland and has been a member of The Swatch Group, the world's largest watch producer and distributor, since 1983.

The company has many affiliations with sport, and is the official time keeper for a number of International Sports Federations, including the International Ice Hockey Federation, International Cycling Union, International Basketball Association and International Fencing Federation.

"The Universiades reflect the Tissot spirit perfectly by its diversity and the incredible dynamism it projects", François Thiébaud, President of Tissot, said.

"They are the biggest international multi-sport events for student athletes, where the brightest stars of tomorrow compete.

"We are very proud to be able to provide them with fairness and equality through ultimate precision timekeeping."

The 2015 Winter Universiade are due to take place from January 24 to February 14, 2015.

Nordic Skiing and biathlon events will be held in Strbske Pleso/Osrblie, Slovakia, from January 24 to February 1 following an announcement from FISU in 2015 that Slovakia would co-host the event.

This decision was taken to anticipate the difficulties faced by Granada 2015 in hosting these particular events.

Alpine skiing, snowboarding, curling, figure skating, short track speed skating and ice hockey scheduled to take place in Grenada from February 4 to 14.

An estimated 2,500 participants from 50 countries are expected to take part in the event.
