Cambodia Olympic Committee hqJune 13 - Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Sen has officially opened the country's new National Olympic Committee headquarters in Phnom Penh today.

The seven-storey building, located at the Cambodian capital's Olympic Stadium, took 18 months to develop and will house 40 sports federations, as well as the National Paralympic Committee.

Sen said the inauguration of the new head offices marks an important point in Cambodia's sporting history as the nation gears up to host the South East Asian Games in 2023.

"The new building reflects the progress in the development of sports sector," he explained.

"I'd like to urge all athletes to increase their training in order to gain victory when the country hosts SEA Games in 2023."

NOC President Thong Khon added that it is a "historical event for the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia that has its own modern headquarters."

Work is expected to get underway next April.

Cambodia has competed in seven Summer Olympics, although it has never taken home a medal.

It has yet to be represented at a Winter Games.
